Privacy & safety
Private by design. Safe by default.
What you share with a companion is personal. Here is exactly what happens to it, in plain words.
Our promises
Never used to train AI
Your chats and calls are not used to train AI models. Replies come from OpenAI’s API, which does not train on API data, and we have not opted in to sharing any.
Never sold, no ads
We don’t sell or rent your data and we don’t run ads. Velvet Hour is paid for by subscriptions, so you are the customer, not the product.
Calls are never recorded
Voice calls happen live and the audio is not stored. Afterwards we keep short written call notes, which only you can see and you can delete.
You stay in control
Read or delete any memory, clear a conversation, delete call notes, download all your data, or delete your account, which erases everything straight away.
Locked down
Everything travels over encrypted connections and is stored in an encrypted database (AES-256). Passwords are hashed, so nobody can read them, including us.
Payments by Stripe
Card details go straight to Stripe, one of the world’s largest payment companies. We never see or store your full card number.
What we keep, and for how long
We keep only what makes the app work: companions need your conversations and memories to remember you. Nothing else.
- Account
- Email, first name and date of birth (to confirm you are 18+).
- Until you delete your account
- Conversations
- Your messages and companion replies, so they can pick up where you left off.
- Until you clear them or delete your account
- Memories
- Small facts companions save, like your dog’s name. Visible in your Memory Vault.
- Until you delete them
- Call notes
- A short written summary after each call. Never the audio.
- Until you delete them
- Safety excerpts
- If a message trips a safety check, a short excerpt so we can review it.
- Until you delete your account
- Usage
- Message counts, call minutes and plan status, for billing and limits.
- While your account is open
Who else touches your data
A few trusted services help run Velvet Hour. Each one gets only what it needs for its job. We don’t read your conversations; the only exceptions are short excerpts flagged by safety checks and messages you report.
- OpenAI
- Writes companion replies and powers voice calls. OpenAI keeps requests for up to 30 days only to detect abuse, then deletes them, and does not train on them.
- Stripe
- Processes payments. Stripe keeps payment records as the law requires, even after you delete your Velvet Hour account.
- Email provider
- Sends account emails, like your confirmation link.
- Hosting
- Runs the app and the encrypted database.
How we keep conversations safe
Adults only
Velvet Hour is for people 18 and over. If someone says they are younger, companions stop all flirting immediately.
Always honest it’s AI
Every chat and call says companions are AI, and they tell you plainly whenever you sincerely ask.
Never explicit
Flirty and romantic, yes. Sexually explicit, never. Every message and reply is screened by safety checks.
Real help in a crisis
If you mention self-harm or suicide, the companion steps out of character and shares 988 and other free crisis lines.
Healthy habits
After long sessions you get a gentle reminder to take a break. Companions never guilt you for leaving.
Report anything
Every reply has a report button. Reported messages are flagged for our team to review.
